What We Offer - Testimonials

Happy customers of experienceDevon’s tailor-made holiday itinerary planning to North Devon, in the South West of England say:

"At the end of July this year I was a coming to the end of a fabulous trip to the U.K. and was wondering how I could spend my last few days before heading back to New Zealand. I didn't have much time so I wanted to make the most of it. I decided to head to the West Country to see what I could find. Before I planned my visit, I had browsed the internet first to help me decide where to go and what to do. This is when I happened upon experienceDevon. They looked as though they knew the kind I places I'd enjoy seeing.
I wasn't disappointed. After emailing and phoning them to talk about my interests and budget, experienceDevon put together
my itinerary to help me make the most of my short time in North Devon.
I was met in Barnstaple by Dave and we headed into town for a coffee and a look at one of the many art exhibitions on offer.
He also gave me a welcome pack with a copy of my short itinerary. I spent the rest of the day exploring the historical town of Bideford, which is where I was staying.
The next day I prepared myself for a coastal walk starting at Hartland Quay. A very scenic bus ride and a 4- hour walk in glorious sunshine with a cream tea half way 'round, yum and a pub at the end!! The evening was spent back in Bideford, a lovely Devonshire market town, with a variety of pubs and restaurants on offer. I kept to my itinerary and headed to a good pub with real ales and plenty of friendly locals!!
My last morning was spent rowing at high tide on the river Torridge followed by a great British breakfast at a recommended
café, and this set me up for my journey back to the airport and home.
I thoroughly enjoyed my brief time in North Devon. Dave & experienceDevon's knowledge and friendly welcome have made this part of the World a place I'll definitely return to."

"As former American Fulbright educators teaching in England, we were encouraged by British friends to vacation in beautiful Devon countryside. We drove easily from the London area via the M-4 in 3 hours and then headed south just before Exeter to the Atlantic coastal town of Bideford. We had planned to meet Dave and Sadie Green who arranged lodging and helped orient us to the area. After a comfortable night in the B&B, the Greens took us on a morning walking tour of Bideford so that we could find shopping, view galleries, restaurants, pubs, and see the locals participate in waterfront activities ranging from fishing to organized rowing clubs. They also provided maps of the area so that we could visit nearby towns, villages, historic sights as well as hiking trails.
The Greens also suggested an interesting daylong drive that included areas in Devon as well as nearby Cornwall. First, we visited the breathtaking Tintagel Castle ruins, a British Heritage Site and purported birthplace of King Arthur, overlooking stunning azure water, rugged cliffs, seaside caves, where we hiked several castle and ocean overlook trails before stopping in town for traditional English tea with Clotted Cream, a Devon specialty.
Next, we drove to the fishing villages of Boscastle and Clovelly, both dramatically situated either on rivers or staggered above the ocean. Scenic Boscastle had recently been rebuilt after flooding and vehicle-less, quaint Clovelly’s cobblestone streets and steep descent to the picturesque harbor was an adventure. At the harbor was an inviting hotel for a meal or a drink overlooking the small fishing boats.
As the sun was sinking, we returned to the resort town of Appledore for a view of the sunset on the beach, fish & chips and pint dinner at a local pub. Before ending our stay, we also dined at an excellent Bideford continental cuisine restaurant featuring some vegetarian options. Prices for all meals and accommodations were reasonable since we were advised by the Greens who were knowledgeable and focused on budget travelers. Our trip was memorable due to the spectacular scenery, fresh ocean breezes, forest walks, and friendly people. We would highly recommend experienceDevon to all."

"Buckingham Palace, Tower Bridge, Cambridge, Oxford.  Been there, done that, but the “real” English experience, not yet. That’s why I ventured out to the southwestern part of England, to visit North Devon.  It’s not as easy as visiting the normal tourist traps, since there isn't much written publications on this region, and the internet provides little details.  Thankfully Experience Devon helped with the logistics and made planning easy.  They gave advice on transportations, dining and lodging options, and more importantly, local perspectives.  With the many restaurants, pubs, and hotels, it’s nice to know which ones were worthy so I got the best value. Walking along the rustic beaches in North Devon coast, dining among locals in Bideford, having cream tea next to a lighthouse and socializing with the flamboyant chef in Appledore made my UK trip exotic.  If you are too sophisticated for Rick Steve’s and graduated from Lonely Planet, give Experience Devon a call.  This is the real England you are going to see."
